If you are traveling within Europe you will have no issues finding an affordable and direct flight into Porto. You can also find transatlantic flights to Porto from NYC, Boston, Toronto, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro.

To find the cheapest flights I use google flights.

The tiles display Portuguese history you will see battles, Portuguese royalty, countryside landscapes, and everyday life painted into the Sao Bentos tiles.

Sao Bento Station is free to enter!

Afternoon

Behold Porto's World Renoud Riberia

porto ribeira

Porto's Riberia is such a jaw dropping place. You will see locals swimming in the Douro River, the stunning Dom Luís I Bridge, and incredible views. There is usually live music, street performers, and an outdoor market along the riberia. Spend an hour or two admiring the scenery at the Porto Ribeira.

Climb To To Top Of Dom Luís I Bridge

Some of the best sights in Portugal come from atop the Dom Luís I Bridge. To get to the top of the bridge you can either take the stairs or the funicular. You will find panoramic views of Porto, along with street vendors, live music, an outdoor bar, and street food. The best time to visit Dom Luís Bridge is at sunset, because it is that much more stunning.

Dinner on The Riberia

porto portugal

There are tons of lovely restaurants along the Riberia. If you are looking for traditional Portuguese food and a stunning view we recommend Taberna dos Mercadores (there is an amazing gelato joint right next to Taberna dos Mercadores too).

Day Two

Morning

Coffee At Noshi

If you are staying at Architect's House Hotel then eat breakfast there - it is so good! If not then head over to Noshi Cafe in the heart of Porto. Noshi specializes in health food such as smoothies bowls, avocado toasts, chia seed oatmeal, and fenomenal coffee.

Porto Cathedral

porto cathedral

The Porto Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral that was built in the 12th century by Bishop D. Hugo. The stunning cathedral is unlike most in Europe, it is both indoor and outdoor. When you first enter the cathedral you will find an enchanting hall that is covered in azul tiles - you seriously feel like you are in a period movie. The hallway is outside and down it you will find doors into prayer rooms and the final door is the actual church, you really just need to see it to believe it. You will also find steps to the rooftop where you can see incredible views of Porto. Needless to say the well preserved Porto Cathedral is a must visit.

Bishops Palace

bishops palace

Located right next to the Porto Cathedral you will find the Bishops Palace. The Bishops Palace holds artifacts from Portugal's past, incredible details in the walls and ceilings, paintings, and a gorgeous staircase right when you walk in. Built in the 12th century, Bishops Palace is a great place to go if you want to learn more about the history of Portugal.

Afternoon

Largo da Pena Ventosa

Largo da Pena Ventosa

I had seen this square all over instagram and I was determined to find it. I ended up wandering around for hours trying to find it but luckily for you I know exactly how to get there. First of all, Largo da Pena Ventosa is a series of enchanting streets, so after you find the square be sure to wander through them. Largo da Pena Ventosa is actually right next to the Porto Cathedral and Bishop's Palace. Walk to the edge of the little stone wall and look over to see the stunning square. You can walk down from the palace (by the little cafe).

Igreja do Carmo

Igreja do Carmo is another must visit cathedral in Porto. It is much smaller than the Porto Cathedral and only takes a few minutes to visit, but it is centrally located and an easy stop. The interior is covered in gold and the exterior is shielded by azul tiles. What more could you want?

Wine Tasting and Food Tour

Since you are only in Porto for 2 days you will not have the opportunity to visit Douro Valley and do a wine tour. The next best thing is to do a wine and tapas tour in the city. On this tour you will get to try authentic Portuguese food and wine with a local guide and fellow travelers.
