1. The Gothic Quarter

The Gothic Quarter is best for first time visitors in Barcelona. Barcelona's' Gothic Quarter is known for its historic architecture, captivating streets and alleys, hidden gems, and landmarks.

You will seriously feel like you have stepped back in time in the Gothic Quarter. The only con to staying here is that it can be a bit pricey, touristy, and crowded.

2. Eixample

best areas to stay in barcelona

The Eixample is all business, but it is definitely a great option to stay in. Some notable attractions in Barcelona's' Eixample is Basílica de la Sagrada Família and Casa Batllo.

I felt like Eixample was the real Barcelona, while other parts kind of felt like a playground for tourists. There are plenty of amazing hotels in Eixample, but these are our favorites:

3. La Barceloneta

where to stay in barcelona by the beach

La Barceloneta is my personal favorite neighborhood in Barcelona. This beachside neighborhood is laid back and quiet, yet still close enough to the Gothic Quarter and the cities main attractions.

What I love about La Barceloneta is the beachy vibe, walkability, sidewalk cafes, and easy access to the Mediterranean!

4. El Born

best part of barcelona to stay in

The El Born Neighborhood is located just north of La Barceloneta. The charming El Born neighborhood is a great alternative the the busy, Gothic Quarter (especially if you are looking for a quieter and more budget friendly area). El Born is situated right next to the Gothic Quarter, so you can have the best in both worlds.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about Barcelona's' Gràcia neighborhood. I only visited once and for a couple of hours. But, if you are looking for a local vibe, Gràcia is definitely the place to go. I also found that it was much cheaper than the other Barcelona neighborhoods. So if you are looking to do Barcelona on a budget or to see Barcelona more locally, Gràcia is a lovely option!
