1. Fort Christian
If you are looking to learn more about the U.S. Virgin Islands history, Fort Christian is the place to go. Located right on the harbour, Fort Christian is the oldest building in the U.S. Virgin Islands (1672 by the Danes) and holds a haunting history, one which you will learn more about as you visit.
2. 99 Steps
The 99 Steps in Charlotte Amalie make for a quick but memorable stop. Built in the 1700s to help residents navigate St. Thomas’s steep hills, the staircase is made from bricks that were shipped all the way from Denmark as ballast in sailing vessels.
3. Frederick Evangelical Lutheran Church
The Frederick Evangelical Lutheran Church is located right at the end of the main shopping area in Charlotte Amalie. This church is significant because it was one of the first churches in the new world (built 1789).
4. Paradise Point
Paradise Point is a bit touristy, but totally worth it. Located on the outskirts of Charlotte Amalie, still walkable from the main shopping and restaurant area, Paradise Point gives you a birds eye view of the harbor and surrounding islands.
5. At Home In The Tropics B&B

6. Drake's Seat
Overlooking Magens Bay, the scenic Drake's Seat viewpoint offers stunning panoramic views of the turquoise ocean, nearby islands, and lush green hills.
The best way to reach Drake’s Seat is by car. At the top, you’ll find a simple stone wall, bench, and railing with a road running between them.
7. Magens Bay Beach
Located just a short drive away from the downtown area, Magens Bay Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the USVI, and for good reason. It is easily accessible, beautiful, and has plenty of amenities. The water is calm and clear (perfect for kids).
8. Main Street
Main Street in Charlotte Amalie is unique and charming. Since the USVI was colonized (dominantly) by the Dutch, the older infrastructure is full of authentic Danish charm. The arched doorways, brick roads, and hidden pathways in the Main Street area are amazing. There are tons of jewelry shops on main street (no sale taxes in Charlotte Amalie) and some good dining options.
9. The Belgian Chocolate Factory
Located down a side street off Main Street is The Belgian Chocolate Factory. Honestly it's nothing much, but if you are looking for something sweet check it out. The little pathway its on is adorable too.
10. Visit The Art Galleries
I was so surprised at the amount of little art galleries there were in Charlotte Amalie. Some cool ones I went to include 81C, Mango Tango, and The Creative Native.
11. Market Square
Market Square is a historic open air market in Charlotte Amalie's downtown area. You can find fresh produce and souvenirs at Market Square. It is typically open Friday and Saturday mornings.
12. Stir It Up Coffee
Located at the base of Paradise Point, I found the Stir It Up had the best coffee on the Island. You can find great espresso drinks, brews, pastries, and sandwiches at Stir It Up.
