What To Do In Seville, Spain

Visit The Royal Palace (Real Alcázar)

Real Alcázar

Dating back to the 9th century, The Royal Palace of Seville is easily one of the most visited places in the city. At the Royal Palace you will find alluring gardens, hallways, grand rooms, and primal examples of islamic architecture. The Royal Palace is a must visit in Seville and will take your around 2-3 hours to walk around in.

Seville Cathedral

Located just a few steps from the Royal Palace is the stunning Seville Cathedral. Originally a mosque, the Seville Cathedral dates back to the 12th century. The captivating cathedral is a perfect example of gothic architecture and is the largest of its kind in the world! This magnificent cathedral was built to signify Sevilles wealth.

While all of the facts above are fascinating, what I found the most interesting was that you will find the tomb of Christopher Columbus in the Seville Cathedral. You will learn all about this on your trip, but Seville was a major hub during the Age of Exploration in the 1500s as it served as the "gateway to the Indies."

Plaza de España

Plaza de España

Plaza de España is easily one of the most grand and elegant places in all of Europe. It honestly looks like the gates of heaven. While, it seems that almost everything in Europe is ancient, the Plaza de España isn't, even though it looks the part.

The plaza was built in 1929 for the Ibero-American Exposition (a world fair). Built by Aníbal González, the plaza represents Spain's former colonies and still stands in all of it's glory.

What I appreciate most about this square is that it is recent, but still exhibits features of ancient architecture, making you feel like you have truly stepped back in time to see a piece of history that has not yet been aged by time.

P.S. Parts of Star Wars was filmed in this Plaza

See The Tower of Giralda

Built in the 1200s, The Tower of Giralda is a Minaret turned Christian Bell Tower. This tower is so unique because it has that blend of Islamic architecture and Roman architecture, much like the rest of Seville. The 331 foot bell tower sits just a few steps from the Seville Cathedral and is home to 24 bells.

The Tower of Giralda is worth a visit not only because it is an architectural wonder, but also because it offers stunning views of Seville!

Explore The Triana Neighborhood

Some must visit attractions in Triana include the Triana Bridge, Triana Market, and the El Carmen Chapel.
