Hidden Gems In Boston, Massachusetts - By a Local
Looking for hidden gems in Boston, Massachusetts? Boston is unlike any city in the United States. The narrow walkways, hidden streets, colonial buildings, and plethora of spots only locals know about make Boston so unique. In this guide to hidden gems in Boston we will go over some (but not all) of my secret spots in Boston as a local. Read on to discover our guide to hidden gems in Boston, Massachusetts!
Hidden Gems In Boston, Massachusetts
1. Bricco Salumeria & Panetteria
First up we have Bricco Salumeria & Panetteria, a hidden deli in the North End Neighborhood. At Bricco Salumeria & Panetteria you will find traditional Italian groceries, pizza, pastas, and more. Bricco Salumeria & Panetteria is located in the basement of one of the brown stones and through an ally. I know, sounds shady, but if you can find this secret spot in Boston you will be happy, trust me.
2. Belle Isle Marsh Reservation
Belle Isle Marsh Reservation is a beach / nature reservation located in east Boston. This small beach is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city without actually leaving the city. I always loved watching planes take off and land from the beach growing up (the airport is right next to the beach). I was always so curious about where they were going - maybe that's where my love for travel began. Anyway, the Belle Isle Marsh Reservation is definitely one of the most underrated places to visit in Boston.
3. The Fells

Ok, so technically not right in Boston. But located just outside of Boston in Winchester, Massachusetts is the Fells. Sounds mystical, right? The Fells are a wilderness area that consists of 2,200 acres of trees, ponds, trails, and natural beauty.
The Fells is a great place to go if you are looking for Boston nature walks off the beaten path. My favorite trail in the Fells is the Reservoir Trail (about 5 miles).
4. Visit The Harvard Book Store

Located in Harvard Square (also a must visit area in Boston) is the Harvard Book Store. You will seriously feel like you are in a movie in this place. The Harvard Book Store is very interesting because there are so many nooks and crannies in it. You will stumble upon stairways and alleys in the shop, like you could really get lost. Anyway, if you are in Cambridge or Harvard Square, the Harvard Book Store is certainly one of the artsy hidden spots in Boston to explore.
5. The Beacon Hill Neighborhood

The Beacon Hill Neighborhood is the quintessential Boston neighborhood. Cobblestone streets, sidewalk cafes, brick buildings, and mom and pop shops make up this gorgeous neighborhood. Most travelers stay within the Boston Common/Newbury Street area, so Beacon Hill is a great neighborhood if you want to see Boston more locally! Be sure to stop by Acorn Street while in Beacon Hill (named the most beautiful street in the US).
6. The Boston Public Library
The Boston Public Library is located in the downtown area (just a street over from Newbury Street). This stunning library lookings like a museum - marble floors, arched ceilings, mosaics on the walls, and even lion statues! Whether you just want to walk around or sit down and do any work - the Boston Public Library is certainly one of the Boston hidden treasures.
7. Harborwalk

I remember walking through the north end, getting pizza, and then always ending up at Harborwalk on Saturdays with my buddys growing up. Harborwalk is a 43 mile walk that goes along Boston's beaches, piers, and parks. It is a great alternative to the Freedom Trail if you are looking for something a bit less touristy and unique.
8. Harvard Stadium
Harvard Stadium reminds me lots of the colosseum, not in its overall appearance, but feeling and vibe you get while in it. The stadium is made on concrete and the seats are just stone steps. It is truly unique. You will often find students running up and down the steps for a workout. The Harvard Stadium is definitely one of the lesser known attractions in Boston.
9. Granary Burying Ground

Boston is an old city and with that comes old, creepy, yet charming burying grounds. Granary Burying Ground is located in the center of Boston (sandwiched between Boston Common and the Finance District) and was made in 1660. This burying ground is home to the tombstones of Paul Revere and Samuel Adams! I can't believe this place isn't more popular!
