Safety - Manchester-By-The-Sea is extremely safe. It is a sleepy little town were nothing really happens.

History - Manchester-By-The-Sea was founded in 1645, but it was initially part of the infamous, Salam, Massachusetts. In 1895, Manchester-By-The-Sea became its own town. This coastal village is known for its beaches, fishing, and more recently the Casey Affleck movie Manchester-By-The-Sea. P.S. don't watch this movie unless you are ready to cry.

There are no hotels in Manchester-By-The-Sea as the town is so small. You can find some airbnbs in town. There are also stunning hotels in the nearby towns of Gloucester and Salem.

Rental In Manchester-By-The-Sea - This Airbnb is located in the heart of the downtown area and is within walking distance of the picturesque Singing Beach. The apartment itself is on the bottom floor of a colonial home and offers a queen sized bed, living room, desk area, a pull out couch, and more.

Old Corner Inn - The Old Corner Inn is a charming Bed & Breakfast located on the outskirts of Manchester-By-The-Sea (near Beverly). The homey B&B offers guests with spacious rooms, breakfast served daily, cozy common areas, and more.

Visit Singing Beach

Singing Beach was one of my favorite places to go growing up in Boston. The picturesque beach is perfect for a beach day!

Singing Beach has calm waters and is within walking distance of the downtown area (shops, cafes, restaurants, ice cream parlors, ect.) There are small islands you can swim to from Singing Beach too!

Masconomo Park

Located right in the downtown area, Masconomo Park is a stunning little park that overlooks the Manchester Marina. Masconomo Park is a perfect place for a picnic (you can grab food from one of the nearby cafes).

Go Shopping In Downtown

Downtown Manchester-By-The-Sea is full of adorable boutiques and niche shops. Some of my favorites include:

  • The Stock Exchange - The Stock Exchange is a consignment shop that opened in 1975. You will find super cool vintage clothes, accessories, furnishings, and trinkets at this unique shop.
  • 4 Beach - 4 Beach is a popular gift shop in downtown. You will find everything you could need for a beach day along with other goodies.
  • Style Snoop - Style Snoop is a women's boutique that sells preppy clothing!
  • Manchester By The Book - Manchester By The Book is my personal favorite shop in town. This massive bookshop has tons of books and trinkets and offers a cozy vibes.

Lobster Cove Beach

Lobster Cove Beach is a more of a hidden beach that mostly only locals go to. However if you are looking to avoid crowds at Singing Beach, then Lobster Cove Beach is a great option! Lobster Cove is very calm and rocky.

Go Fishing or Have a Boat Day

Fishing and boating is huge in New England! From Manchester-By-The-Sea you can visit many uninhabited islands and explore them. The best way to get on a boat is to rent one through Gloucester Boat Rentals.

Some popular islands to visit off of Manchester-By-The-Sea include Ram Island, Meadow Island, House Island, and The Misery Islands.

Best Restaurants In Manchester-By-The-Sea

  • Bravo By The Sea - Bravo By The Sea is a lovely pizza joint that is perfect for a casual dinner or take away! You will also find salads and pasta at Bravo By The Sea.
  • Laughing Gull Cafe - The Laughing Gull Cafe serves breakfast & coffee all day alongside lunch.
  • 35 Beach - 35 Beach is my favorite restaurant in Manchester-By-The-Sea. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 35 Beach dishes out amazing New England style food.
  • Cala's - Cala's is a bar in the heart of town that serves up classic bar food alongside your favorite drinks. This place is very laid back and relaxing!
  • Captain Dusty's Ice Cream - There is nothing like ice cream after a beach day! Captain Dusty's Ice Cream is the perfect place to end your day in Manchester-By-The-Sea.

Summer is the best time to visit this beach town! Especially if you are looking for a beach vacation in New England. I love all the seasons in Manchester, it is just so beautiful, you can't go wrong.
