Day One

Morning

Touch Down At Cyril E. King Airport

usvi main airport

Hop on a morning flight to Cyril E. King Airport, located on St. Thomas and is the main airport in the US Virgin Islands. You can find cheap direct flights to Cyril E. King Airport from all over the USA. I flew Spirit and the flight from Orlando only set me back $120 round trip! You can also find affordable flights to and from St. Thomas on JetBlue, American, Delta, Sun Country, United, Frontier, and more.

Leaving the airport is easy. You can take a taxi to your accommodation or rent a car. If you plan on doing this 4 day USVI itinerary fully there is no need to rent a car. I took a taxi to Charlotte Amalie and it was about $15.

Check Into At Home In The Tropics

At Home In The Tropics

At Home In The Tropics is a lovely bed and breakfast located in the heart of Charlotte Amalie. I love my stay At Home In The Tropics because of the incredible views, delectable homemade breakfasts, location, spacious rooms, and attention to detail. At Home In The Tropics is by far my favorite place to stay in the USVI and I am sure it will be yours too!

If you are looking for something a bit more affordable I also stayed at the Windward Passage Hotel in Charlotte Amalie. The rooms are spacious and clean and you will have access to an outdoor swimming pool. If you are traveling with a family to the USVI the Windward Passage Hotels is great.

Afternoon

MAGENS Bay Beach

magens bay beach
megans bay beach

Whenever you visit a Caribbean island the first thing you probably want to do is go to the beach. Magens Bay Beach is easily one of the most popular and beautiful beaches in the USVI. Located on the Atlantic side of St. Thomas, Magens Bay Beach is an inclosed beach with clear water, views of the surrounding islands, and beach shacks with food if you get hungry. Magens Bay Beach often has sightings of sea turtles, so make sure to bring your snorkeling gear!

It is best to Magens Bay Beach in the afternoon as the mornings can be busy with cruise people and other tourists.

Dinner at blue 11

Blue 11 is a lovely seafood restaurant in the eastern part of Charlotte Amalie. If you are looking for something on the fancier side than Blue 11 is perfect for you. It is also an easy walk from At Home In The Tropics.

Make a reservation at Blue 11 here.

Day Two

Morning

Coffee at stir it up coffee

Stir It Up Coffee is definitely the best coffee joint in St. Thomas. You will find lattes, cold brew, dark roast, you name it at Stir It Up Coffee. The pastries at Stir It Up are super good too! There is plenty of seating as well.

Paradise Point

paradise point

Paradise Point is located right next to Stir It Up Coffee. You take a gondola up to the viewpoint were drinks, souveiers, and food are sold - we didn't buy anything as it is a bit pricey. Paradise Point is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the world. So while it is definitely touristy it is totally worth it! Be sure to check the Paradise Point website before visiting as the schedule frequently changes.

Explore Charlotte Amalie

Charlotte Amalie

Charlotte Amalie is the capital of the US Virgin Island and is home to around 20,000 residents. The most notable thing in Charlotte Amalie is the colorful dutch style doors on Main Street. If you are a fellow photographer you will love Main Street.

While in Charlotte Amalie make sure to visit the 99 steps, Fort Christian, and Frederick Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Afternoon

Go snorkeling

You cannot visit the US Virgin Islands without going snorkeling. The USVI is home to tropical fish, sea turtles, coral reefs, and more underwater sites. The best way to snorkel in the USVI is by doing a tour. It is always best to do a tour when exploring new waters. I did this tour that left out of Frenchman's Cove and went around Little Buck Island. It was three hours and super fun!

Dinner at Virgilio's

Virgilio's is an Italian restaurant the serves up some lovely pasta's and pizza's. While Virgilio's has great food, what I really loved about it is the style of the restaurant itself. The walls are covered in art and there are brick arches throughout. I even saw some Botero paintings.

Virgilio's does not take reservations, so be prepared to wait in a line if it is busy.

Day Three

Morning

Ferry To St. John

Head over to Red Hook bright and early and hop on a ferry to St. John. From Red Hook ferries run every hour on the hour starting at 7am going to 11pm. The only other place to catch a ferry to St. John is Charlotte Amalie. The Charlotte Amalie to St. John ferry runs everyday at 11am, but is subject to change. I bought my tickets when I get to the ferry terminal, but you can also book online. The ferry is only around 20 minutes from Red Hook and an hour from Charlotte Amalie.

Breakfast and Coffee at St. John Provisions

Once you dock in Cruz Bay, take a short walk to the nearby St. John Provisions for a coffee and breakfast. The outdoor cafe has some of the best coffee on St. John. I loved the iced latte and sesame bagel at St. John Provisions. They also sell great smoothies.

Go Hiking In The Virgin Islands National Park

The Virgin Islands National Park is one of the most underrated hiking and nature parks in North America. Covering around 60% of St. John, The Virgin Islands National Park is home to hiking trails, hidden beaches, spectacular view points, underwater snorkeling trails, sugar mills, and ancient taino hieroglyphics. Read more about the best trails at the Virgin Islands National park on my Quick Guide To St. John.

Afternoon

Trunk Bay Beach

WHAT TO DO IN. ST JOHN

Trunk Bay Beach was my favorite beach in the USVI because of the incredible views, clear water, amenities and underwater snorkeling trail. It is such a treat jumping into the water at Trunk Bay after a morning of hiking. I sat on the beach all afternoon with a book and a pina colada - it was the best thing ever. If you want to do the underwater snorkeling tour you can rent snorkel equipment at Trunk Bay.

Ferry Back To St. Thomas

Whenever you are ready catch a taxi to Cruz Bay and hop on the ferry back to Red Hook. Taxis leave frequently from Trunk Bay to Cruz Bay. If you are on the 5pm or 6pm ferry try to get there a bit earlier because they can fill up as they are the most popular times to leave the island.

Dinner at Greenhouse

Greenhouse is a budget friendly option in Charlotte Amalie that serves all sorts of food. The main reason we went to Greenhouse was because they are open on Sundays and most everywhere closed on Sundays in the USVI. So if your trip falls on a sunday keep Greenhouse in mind.

Day Four

Morning

Drake's Seat

st thomas

Drake's Seat is an incredible viewpoint in St. Thomas. Overlooking Magens Bay Beach you will find that Drake's Seat is the perfect place for a photo before you leave the USVI! Be careful on the actually seat area and deck because I cut my finger on a nail that was sticking out. I thought the view from the pull off was better anyway.

Go Ziplining

If you have a later flight have a go at ziplining. I did this ziplining tour and had a blast. There are eight different platforms and incredible views on this tour. You can go up to thirty five mph on the zipline.

If you are not a fan of heights and have extra time Brewers Bay Beach is stunning and it is right next to the airport.

Afternoon

Catch Your Flight Home

Try to book an airport transport because it can be tricky to get a taxi in St. Thomas sometimes. I booked this one and everything went smoothly.
