8 Cheapest Destinations In The USA

The USA is a huge and incredibly diverse country, home to countless cultures, landscapes, and experiences. You can explore just about every type of biome here—from deserts and mountains to beaches and forests—all without leaving the country. I'll be honest: the U.S. isn’t always the cheapest place to travel. That said, some cities and states are surprisingly affordable. If you're looking to explore without breaking the bank, here are 8 cheapest destinations in the USA.

This post is all about the 8 cheapest destinations in the USA.

1. New Orleans, Louisiana

nola cheap

New Orleans is a lively city in the southeast of the United States. Known for their delicious beignets and lovely jazz music, New Orleans is a really fun and unique destination with so much to do. While in New Orleans checkout Bourbon Street and the French Quarter.

Even though New Orleans is a top tourist destination in the USA, it is incredibly inexpensive for the USA. You can find hotels that are still nice but very inexpensive for what they are.

If you are looking for a place to stay in New Orleans I would recommend staying at The Loews Hotel. The Loews Hotels offers wonderful accommodation in a central location for an affordable price.

Another way to save money in New Orleans is to do a tour. Doing a tour will help you save money on transportation and assure you that you won't miss any sights while learning way more than you would if you were by yourself.  This tour will show you all around the city in only 2 hours.

2. San Antonio, Texas

If you want a real american experience head over to San Antonio, Texas. San Antonio has so much to do. You must see San Antonio Riverwalk and Alamo while in San Antonio.

San Antonio is very affordable. The hotels are very cheap for what you get and I have noticed that the flights to San Antonio are always quite cheap. The Element Hotel has lovely reviews, is very affordable and is located on the Riverwalk.

This three day hop on hop off pass will save you a ton of money on transportation. I am a huge fan of hop on hop off passes because I notice when I do then I end up saving so much money.

3. Delray Beach, Florida

delray beach

Delray Beach is located about an hour north of Miami. After spending a month in Delray I cannot suggest this place enough. Delray is more laid back than the nearby Miami, but still has a really fun downtown and going out scene. While in Delray make sure you go to the beach and explore Atlantic Ave.

Accommodation in Delray is pennies compared to Miami and Fort Lauderdale. My favorite hotel by a long shot is The Opal Grand. The Opal Grand is located right on the beach and on Atlantic Ave. The restaurant at the Opal Grand is lovely I enjoyed the beachy atmosphere and insanely good seafood food.

Flights to the Delray area tend to be cheap year round. You can easily take a flight to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or West Palm Beach and drive to Delray. Flights to and from these airports within the US are usually very cheap.

4. Ashville, North Carolina

Ashville, North Carolina is a great place to visit if you are a fellow nature lover and hiker. While in Asheville make sure to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. Both of these activities are completely free.

Flights to Asheville are usually not too expensive. If you live within driving distance to Asheville, the drive in and around the Asheville area is gorgeous!

5. Portsmouth, New Hampshire

cheapest destinations in the usa

Located in southern New Hampshire, Portsmouth is a great place for a weekend getaway. The downtown has so many unique shops and delicious restaurants. Being from Boston, Massachusetts, Portsmouth was by far my favorite day trip growing up.

Portsmouth is not too far (around 4o minutes) from the Boston area so it is best to fly into Boston. Flights to and from Boston in the USA tend to be fairly inexpensive because of the amount of flights Boston has.

6. Savannah, Georgia

Most of the southern states are way less expensive that the states in the northeast and west coast. Savannah takes the cake for being the most fun and affordable destination. Enjoy the brick streets and beautiful weeping willow trees in the many parks. While in Savannah make sure you visit an old Savannah mansion and take a walk in Forsyth Park.

As I have mentioned before, I love hop on hop off tours, this Hop On Hop Off Bus will save you so much money.

Savannah has some great places to stay for cheap. I stayed at Sonder for $80 a night! I had a great stay right in downtown. Everything was clean, comfortable and the room was very spacious.

It is best to fly into the Savannah airport. If the prices are expensive you could always fly into the Charleston airport and take a train to Savannah. The train ride from Charleston to Savannah is only an hour.

7. Salt Lake City, Utah

utah

Here’s another one for my fellow nature lovers. Many attractions in Salt Lake City are either free or very affordable, including hikes and museums. While in Salt Lake City, make sure to visit Temple Square and the Natural History Museum of Utah.

You can find flights to Salt Lake City from the West Coast for under $50. From the East Coast you may have a bit more trouble finding an affordable flight but keep your eyes peeled because sometimes you can find a deal.

Hotels in Salt Lake City are not too expensive. The Evo Hotel is a great hotel for kids because of the indoor rock climbing. This hotel is also very affordable and in a great location.

Another great hotel that is in a lovely location, affordable, and has great reviews is the Kimball at Temple Square.

8. Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque is often overlooked by travelers. There is so much to do in Albuquerque from the Petroglyph National Monument in Albuquerque to the Pecos National Historical park.

You can find flights from the west coast to Albuquerque for very cheap. From the east coast you may have a bit more trouble, but there are definitely some sales.

Accommodation in Albuquerque is what makes it one of the cheapest destinations in the USA. I recommend the Hilton Garden Inn because of their great prices and location.
